REHOMING
We feel strongly that dogs should be in homes that are well-suited for the dog and the family.
Dogs are living creatures capable of fear, love, pain, loneliness and joy. They should never be considered disposable property – they are members of your family.
For various reasons people sometimes feel they must give up their dogs. When problems arise with a dog, giving them up may seem like the only answer. If we can help you can find a solution to the problems and help make your dog a member of the family in good standing again, that’s one less dog that needs a new home. Both you and your dog will be happier.
Hood River Adopt A Dog (HRAAD) encourages you to try to solve the problems first, and we can recommend resources to help. If the problems cannot be resolved, then you may need help to find a new home for your dog.
Can your dog be rehomed?
HRAAD may be able to assist you in finding your dog a new home dog through our Rehoming Assistance program. You must:
- Complete and submit our Rehoming Assistance Dog Information Questionnaire here.
- The HRAAD Dog Behavior Evaluation team typically meets on Tuesday to review completed Rehoming Assistance applications to determine if the dog will fit into our program and if we have space at the shelter
- If it is determined that the dog qualifies, a Dog Behavior Evaluation team member will contact you to discuss the situation further and schedule an in-person behavior evaluation
- If it is determined after the in-person behavior evaluation that the dog will fit into our program, you will need to pay a $75 rehoming fee if the dog is neutered or $100 if the dog is not
- If your dog is accepted into the HRAAD program, we will market your dog like all of our adoptable dogs via PetFinder, our website, social media, and flyers
- The dog will be vaccinated, neutered, and micro-chipped if needed
