What your fees cover:
Hundreds of dogs in need of homes come through Hood River Adopt a Dog’s doors every year. Each has a different story to tell. Some are found as strays, while others are surrendered by owners who can no longer care for them. Many are rescued from animal cruelty cases, and even more have traveled hundreds of miles from under-resourced shelters for a second chance.
No matter how they got here or where they came from, they’re provided with basic needs, individualized medical treatment, behavioral rehabilitation when necessary, protection, and most importantly love.
Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the dogs while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing us to continue our efforts to rescue and rehome pets.
Our adoption fees help cover:
- Wellness visit and exam
- Spaying or neutering when age-appropriate
- Vaccinations like rabies, distemper, parvovirus, and Bordetella, a vaccine that helps to prevent kennel cough
- Flea/tick treatmentÂ
- Microchip
- Deworming
- Collar, identification tag, and seatbelt
Our adoption fees help to support our mission and enable us to continue to save over 300 dogs each year.
The total cost of caring for and rehoming these dogs amounted to more than $200,000 last year. Adoption fees help offset these costs, covering less than thirteen percent of the total. We rely on private donations and our own fundraising abilities to fill in the gap.
