VOLUNTEER
Want to volunteer?
Thanks for your interest in volunteering with Hood River Adopt A Dog! Our current option for volunteering is walking dogs at the shelter. Volunteers are trained to take dogs on a “sniffari” style walk, which allows the dog to guide the way and de-stress, and is fun for both humans and dogs!
Due to the investment that training volunteers requires, we ask that you commit to walking dogs for 2 shifts per month for a minimum of 3 months. You must be at least 16 years old to volunteer.
Apply to be a volunteer
To start volunteering as a dog walker, follow these simple steps:
- Email volunteers@hoodriveradoptadog.org
- Include the following information in your email–
- Your full name
- Your phone number, email address, and preferred method of communication (email, text, phone call)
- Why you are interested in walking dogs at the shelter and any experience or background you have working with dogs.
- Within 7-10 days, you will receive an email reply from a volunteer coordinator with additional details regarding the onboarding process.
We rely on volunteers
Volunteer dog walkers are an essential part of our program. By showing up at least twice a month for walking shifts, you are giving dogs a safe experience outdoors that is vital for stress management and well being. We strive to create a safe, positive, inclusive environment for volunteers.
